Remember that eating and sleeping habits are always important to be at your best, but even more so leading up to and during a gala. Going to sleep the same time every night and waking up the same time every day gets your body in a good routine. Changes in sleeping times will affect you negatively, even if you are getting 8 hours of sleep for the day. Remember that foods high in sugar and fat are not good choices for during galas or any other time for that matter. You don’t need to eat high energy sweets and drinks during a gala. Bring healthy nutritious snacks to sustain your energy for this long swim meet. Continual eating of high energy sweets and drinks will cause poor performances especially near the end of the gala. Make food the night before and bring water to drink. One energy bar and one bottle of sports drink is more than enough. The rest of your food should be wholesome and nutritious. Don’t be fooled by energy drinks and snacks. Your performance is determined by your training, good healthy eating and good sleeping habits. I wish you all fast swimming. If you have been training hard you will be rewarded.
